About Me

Jihong Zhu is a lecturer (assistant professor) in robotics at School of Physics, Engineering and Technology, University of York. He directs the Robot-Assisted Living LAboratory (RALLA). He was a postdoctoral researcher jointly at Cognitive Robotics, TU Delft and Honda Research Institute, Europe working with Prof. Jens Kober and Dr. Michael Gienger(Honda Research Institute, Europe).

Jihong is presently an Associate Editor for IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) and Complex and Intelligent Systems. He serves as an Associate Editor for ICRA and IROS (top robotics conferences), and the Lead Guest Editor for RA-L Special Issue on Robotic Handling of Deformable Objects. He is the main/co-organizer for several workshops at ICRA and IROS (top robotics conference) on robotic manipulation.

Jihong obtained his PhD in robotics at LIRMM (Laboratoire d’Informatique, de Robotique et de Microélectronique de Montpellier) supervised by Prof. Andrea Cherubini, Prof. Philippe Fraisse, and Prof. André Crosnier. His PhD committee includes: Prof. François Chaumette, Dr. Maximo A. Roa, Prof. Veronique Perdereau, Dr. Claire Dune, and Dr. David Navarro-Alarcon.

He was a member of the IDH team. He was involved in H2020 project VERSATILE. He visited ROMI lab at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University hosted by Dr. David Navarro-Alacron for three and a half months during his PhD.

Before joining LIRMM, he was a master student in Systems and Control at TU Delft. He did his master thesis at the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics, German Aerospace Center (DLR) under the supervision of Dr. Nico Mansfeld and Prof. Jens Kober.

He did a research internship at General Electric Global Research Center in Munich under the supervision of Dr. Medy Satria.

Jihong obtained his bachelor degree with First class honours from University of Birmingham and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Dual degree program). He worked at Jaguar Land Rover as an internship student during his bachelor.
